Easter

Happy Easter, only a little bit late.  It's been interesting to have a child old enough to participate in Easter this year.  Easter egg hunts were a little slow on the uptake... out of the 50 eggs between 3 kids, I think she averaged 11.  However, while she may have been slow to catch on, she was persistent.  She dragged Far-Far back outside after all the eggs had been found and insisted that they keep looking.  He kept assuring her that they were all accounted for, but she was so firm in the belief that there were more that I had to go grab a few more and quickly hide them.  She joyously found the magically-appearing eggs, shook them, and then spiked them on the ground with upset cries when there was no rattle from candy inside.  She thought she was the victor from this battle, because the eggs she found after that were filled with candy, but what I didn't tell her was that I was recycling candy she had already found.  Maniacal laugh... (yes, we watched the Muppets last night).  We had to literally rip her away from Far-Far and the two rotating eggs I kept hiding.  We appeased her the next day by having a private Easter egg hunt in the backyard for Family Night.  Also using recycled candy.  Mwahaha.  As far as the Easter bunny goes, we decided to skip that myth/lie and just give her a few presents from Mom and Dad.  The sidewalk chalk was a huge hit, until it decided to rain every day since.  We tried to focus on the reason for Easter, but how do you explain crucifixion and resurrection to a 2-year old?  She would dutifully say things like, "Easter is when Jesus came alive again," and then go back to twirling in her beloved Easter dress and begging for candy.  We'll keep working on that one.  Here's some pictures of the festivities:

She has literally been waiting a year to wear this dress, since it was too big for her last year.   She has been asking me for months if it was Easter yet so she could wear her dress.

Some of the cousins had a real good time hiding the eggs...

Grandma and Grandpa Merkley with the kids and their spoils

Nana and Sam (who celebrated by blowing out and getting 2 Easter outfits)

Nothing says Easter like shooting hoops with Dad

I hear you on the explaining Easter to a toddler thing. Mine went like this:
"So you know Jesus. Well, he died. And then... he was alive again... Ummm... I'll explain the rest later; here are your eggs dont ask any questions.

Such a cute Easter dress. Sorry she had to wait a year to wear it. That seamstress needs a new measuring tape! It isn't the dress that makes the picture, it is the cutest little girl that shines in the dress.
