Thank goodness that's over

Happy day after Halloween! After surviving our church trunk-or-treat last Friday night, I was ready to be done with this whole holiday. I've decided that there are two camps for Halloween: you either go all out and love it, or you tolerate it and are relieved when it's over. I stay firmly in the second camp. I don't like goopy pumpkin guts, I hate coming up with a costume for one night that doesn't cost much, and I love/fear the abundance of candy floating around everywhere. I just don't have the will power to resist it. I think I'm up to 3 or 4 KitKats today, all of which I'm supposed to be saving for little trick-or-treaters. Morgan has been excited about "Hawoween" ever since we got her Cinderella costume a month ago, and by the time we finally got her suited up she knew exactly how the night was going to go. You walk up to someone, say "twick o freet" (someone actually thought she was saying "sugar free," hee hee), and they give you candy. She was a pro. The only thing that slowed her down was that she didn't realize everyone else was going to be dressed up too - the masks especially made her nervous - and then when she actually got candy in her bag she lost sight of the long-term goal and wanted to open it right then. Might I add, though, that my child was well-behaved, asked politely, and then said thank you. She even paused to tell people that she was wearing a "Cindelella dwess" and show them her Cinderella toy. Unlike the multitudes of children that practically ran up to my car, grabbed a handful of candy, and took off, without saying a word to me, and then tried to come back again and again. Seriously!? Who are these kids, and who are their parents? My two-year old is better behaved than they are, and apparently has a larger vocabulary as well. I was most appalled when I heard a parent encouraging their child to go make the rounds again and get more candy. I was ready to throw in the towel on the whole holiday right then and there. But then I look at this cute little girl, and think, "When else do I get to dress her up?"

Last night was good - just the three of us going to select houses of Morgan's favorite people. The weather was lovely, and it was nice to stroll around visiting friends. Then we woke up this morning, and November started with a vengeance.

ooh, I KNOW what you mean about the little weenies making the rounds. Last night I didn't even show the bowl until they said, "trick or treat" (having to prompt many) and told those who said "thank you" to come back and pick out another piece.
I think I'll start keeping a bowl of crap candy and a bowl of awesome candy by the front door and make those kids PROVE who deserves what. Trick or Treat can work both ways, you know...

Great costume! I have no idea how you got your toddler to sit still long enough to make that up-do. It looks amazing.

I am in the other camp... Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays. But I can sympathize.
