Quick Inquiry

To all of you who do not have much funding at this moment: how do you afford furniture? With a baby on the way, we have a whole new set of furniture needs, and yet, just the thought of providing baby's day to day needs is daunting. I'm amazed at how well some of you furnish and decorate your houses/apartments on a tight budget, and it makes me feel like I'm missing something. Is there a great thrift shop you all shop at, or do you make your own stuff, or were your parents just remodeling? Please enlighten me.

IKEA

We've been lucky enough to inherit a lot, but when that doesn't work...IKEA, freecycle.com, craigslist.com, ksl.com. I haven't used freecycle.com but my cousin loves it and the others we have put to great use! Target and Walmart are good for little things like cheap lamps, tables, bookcases, etc. Just start with what you must have and add more a little at a time!

craigslist. you have to check everyday for weeks, but usually end up finding what you need :) good luck! Isn't the new baby a recipient of the FarFar and Nana scholarship?

KSL classifieds
kid to kid
D.I. (honestly you can do it! - great for lamps - redo the shades with fabric, used picture frames and paint them all to match... etc.)
sisters hand-me-downs
and get crafty - a little black spray paint goes a long way :)
If someone offers you something ALWAYS say yes:)
Get one fancy item (maybe a crib)- finance it if you have to and then go cheap or free for everything else and sand it, paint it, stain it, decoupage it - anything you have to do to make it less hideous - fade it into the background and make it frame your one fancy splurge item!!!

And have your old roommates that are already wanting to get together throw you a shower and go in on one great fabulous gift :)
Seriously I want to have a roomie reunion - when is good for you? where are you living? We can do it at my house if it is centrally enough located and I would love to throw a shower for you (remember to always say yes when someone offers you something!)

ksl classifieds. my entire place is a testament to what you can find on that site (INCLUDING Asher's crib!) Also, if you're into the do-it-yourself sewing scene, there's a great discounted fabric store for upholstery and such around State Street and 7200 South (Home Fabrics, I believe it is called) it's actually just a few stores down from Savers which is another fantastic place to find deals, especially in Sandy where the locals are throw-out happy and you can find alot of practically new stuff...
